Guitar Hero on Random
Guitar Hero on Monday nights at the Jackalope Lounge, here in Eugene! I’ve been hosting this for the last four or five weeks here, with various prizes being given away, all levels of difficulty welcomed, and a good time had by all!
We had a running bounty on one of our expert players, and I got down into the trenches to play a round last night– although I generally aim to stay impartial– and managed to pick up the long-elusive bounty. I’m going to try not to spend the seven dollars all in one place.
The real reason for this post, however, is that, over the course of the last few weeks, I’m always trying to make things a little simpler on my side. Case in point, song selection! You want it to be random, but easily accessible. You want to be able to skip over a song you’ve heard three times tonight.
Iteration #1: Dice. Dice was fun, but ultimately, impractical, since the law of averages gives you lots of sevens being rolled, which means more and more rerolls as the night goes on.
Iteration #2: Command-line PHP script. An improvement, because of the wonderful automation involved, but lugging my laptop in? Not ideal.
Iteration #3: web version! Simplistic, but I can hit it with my phone. At’sa pretty nice.
